Pokvadratkana škatla (1)

INCHIES ON THE BOX (1)

/ After a long time, I thought I'd make some boxes again. And right at the beginning, I decided to take step-by-step photos to show you how I do it, and to add some pieces of advice.

Torej - lesena škatla velikosti 20 x 30 cm, višina 14 cm.
/ So, here goes - a wooden box, 20 by 30 cm, 14 cm high.

/ We will need: 175 inchies (I make squares with sides measuring 2,5 cm) and 76 rectangles with one side of 2,5 cm and the other shorter one (I'll say more on this later) .

/ One standard sheet of scrapbooking paper (as indicated by its original size) makes 12x12 or 144 inchies. Which means two sheets will be enough for one box. However, we can use several different papers.

/ * I mentioned scrapbooking paper because I've used it on all my boxes and I know for certain it goes on well with the glue I use - and doesn't crimp. If you wish to use some other kind of paper, just take some time to test how it will behave.

V tem primeru sem izbrala štiri papirje in vzela od vsakega polovico.
/ In this case, I chose four papers and took one half of each.

Jaz kvadratke režem z mojo staro dobro giljotino.
/ I cut inchies with my good old paper cutter. Until now I've managed to cut squares most precisely if I used long (up to 30 cm) and narrow (max. 15 cm) strips. I just go along the cm marks and: 30, 27.5, 25, 22.5, 20...

Iz ene polovice - 12 trakov.
/ One half makes 12 strips.

/ I wanted to keep the bird motive, so I made four strips out of two other papers :)

/ 4 x 12 strips - if we cut them all up, we'd get 288 inchies.

15, 12,5, 10, 7,5, 5, 2,5
/ 15, 12.5, 10, 7.5, 5, 2.5

/ I mentioned in the beginning that we need 175 inchies.
In my case: if I wish to have an equal number of inchies made of four different papers, I need to round up this number to the number that can be divided by 4, that is 176. Which means I'll get 44 inchies of each paper. And since I cut each strip into 6 inchies, I'd need to cut up 7 strips and one part of the eighth. I cut the eighth one up as well (to have some reserve).

/ But you can also ignore all this babbling on numbers and just go for 175 inchies :)

/ I saved four strips of each paper; it is then easier to cut them up in smaller dimensions - at least for me, since I use my paper cutter and I just move the strip along the cm and mm marks.

/ We have the box, we have the inchies, we just need the glue. I use this transparent varnish, even for adhering. First I used it only for varnishing and I adhered the inchies with paper glue, but then I saw that the paper remains in its best form if I use the same thing for both steps - as the varnish moistens the paper during adhering, the paper doesn't bubble up or crimp or tear during varnishing.

/ *** Of course you can use some other glue as well - I think glue for wood will do just fine for both adhering and varnishing (you might want to dillute it a bit with water for the latter). As I said before: take time and do some testing, so that you don't ruin the entire box.

Lepljenje v naslednji objavi. Do takrat se imejte lepo.
/ Adhering in the next post. Have a nice time until then.
