Kamenčki

PEBBLES

Tile so nastali že pred časom.

/ I made these quite some time ago. I took some leftovers from my Fimo box and rolled them with my pasta machine to get a few larger monochromatic pieces. I cut them to smaller pieces, formed the pebbles, rolled them in salt, made holes and baked them on the stand.

/ The stand is home made - a few toothpicks glued into holes drilled in a little piece of wood. Not for an exhibition, but very useful for drying DAS or baking Fimo balls or pebbles. Especially when I need holes: if I hold the ball with fingers while poking holed on both sides, the ball always gets at least a little bit distorted. But here I put it on on toothpick, press very gently so that it remains on the toothpick, and then I take another toothpick and make a hole from the top, pushing the ball downwards and making the hole in the bottom at the same time. The ball then remains on the stand without me having to touch it at all.

Sam svoj mojster

DIY

/ Sometimes it feels just great if I manage to avoid some mass hysteria and stop myself from ordering new and new crafting tools and gadgets, and I use the things I have at home instead and make, with some effort and imagination, something that serves its purpose just as well. Of course such home-made tools don't look as fancy as those in video tutorials and internet shops, but the results are quite OK...

/ One of such things that I decided to make myself when I saw it for the very first time was a stamp positioning tool Stamp-A-Ma-Jig. The idea was there for quite some time, but when I got my little stamps from PinkCatStudio, I got busy.

/ I cut the stamps - I didn't cut them out precisely but I made little squares and rectangles. I adhered them to wooden blocks to which some rubber stamps were once mounted - I ordered a bulk of stamps once but there were quite a few stamps with the same motive, so I removed the stamps and used the blocks for another purpose. As these motives are quite small, I decided to save some space and put three or four of them to one block.

Nato sem si iz lesenih ploščic izdelala kotnik - pravokotne in kvadratne ploščice sem zlagala in lepila tako, da so se spoji prekrivali, in s tem sem dobila pravi kot.
Iz tršega prosojnega papirja sem narezala kvadrate.

/ Then I took some small wooden plates and made a tool - I stacked and glued the rectangulars and squares together to get a 90-degree-angle corner. I used some thicker translucent paper and made some squares.

In zdaj - kako to orodje sploh deluje: najprej sem en kot prosojnega kvadrata nastavila v kot kotnika. Nato sem s črnim StazOn črnilom odtisnila en motiv.

/ And now - how does this tool work actually: first, I positioned one corner of the translucent square to the corner of the tool. Then I used black StazOn ink and stamped one motive.

/ I stamped other three motives to the remaining three corners - where there are two motives on one side of the block, one should clean the stamp before stamping the other motive in order to avoid unwanted images lying everywhere.
In this way, I'll prepare similar squares - one per each block.

Ko so priprave opravljene, lahko začnemo. Recimo, da želim na vejo "obesiti" jabolko.

/ With all the preparation finished, we can now start. Let's say I'd like to "hang" an apple on a branch.

Na sliko drevesa nastavim odtis in izberem pravi položaj.

/ I take an image of a tree, position the stamped image to where I want it.

/ Then I take the tool and place it to the right position (with the corner of the square lying in the corner of the tool). I remove the stamped image and stamp an apple just like before.

/ And so on. Mind you, this tree of mine is solely an example and for demonstration purposes, so please don't seek any high artistic value in it :)

/ And now when I have the tool, I can use it just perfectly for my little letters on wooden handles, and the repeating patterns will maybe look a bit less random...

Doma narejene rožice

HOME-MADE FLOWERS

/ Considering the fact that I love gerberas and daisies, I also like paper flower with more than eight petals. I know that they could be simply cut out with a digital shape cutter or bought ready-made, or even a template or punch could be found, but I found a way to make them myself.

/ As a template, I used a punched out scalloped circle (fourteen little hills means fourteen petals). I traced it to paper - it doesn't matter to which side you draw it, the pencil line won't show after you cut the flower out.

/ I drew a circle in the center - it can be done with a template or free hand; it might depend on whether you want to cover it later (with a smaller flower or a button).

/ I cut the flower out (you don't have to be too precise) and cut lines towards the center between the hills, stopping at the circle.

/ Then I cut out the hills. I used scalloped scissors, but the regular ones will do just fine as well.

Z navadnimi škarjami sem "pobrala" robove - nekoliko prej sem zaokrožila hribčke in pobrala nekaj papirja med dvema trakcema. Voilá rožica!
/ I used the regular scissors to trim the edges - I circled off the hills and cut some paper between the petals. Voilá flower!

Za sredino so se mi zdeli najboljši veliki gumbi.
/ Large buttons seemed the most appropriate for the center piece.

V naslednji objavi bo še nekaj variacij.

No, pa sem vzela dva stara lesena okvirčka (IKEA), odstranila stekelce in z obojestranskim lepilnim trakom prilepila pravokotno plastično mrežico z majhnimi luknjicami.

A NEW HOME FOR BRADS

Not that I use them every single day. But I somehow got tired of searching through the box to find three or four of the same colour (well, at least I had them sorted by colour). So I took two old wooden frames (IKEA), removed the glass and with the double-sided tape, I adhered a rectangular plastic net with small holes to each of them. And I ended up with some kind of canvas to pin all the brads into. They are now always in their place and are easily accessible - some of them are sorted by colour, some are arranged in a pattern and the flowers are, like on a meadow, calling out for the spring to come.

Umetnik

In ko sem kliknila nanjo - presenečenje!

AN ARTIST

My today's post is different from the usual ones, but I liked the page I've found so much I wanted to share it with you. While searching for a certain appropriate expression, I wanted to double-check it in the Images section, and this violet beauty caught my eye. And when I clicked on it - surprise!
(If they were all available and I had enough money to pick ten of them, I would still have a problem!)

Kaj dobimo...

Dobimo idejo. Nalepke nalepimo na magnetni trak, jih izrežemo in dobimo super luškane magnetke za oboževalce motivov Sarah Kay.

WHAT DO WE GET...

...if we accidentally find Sarah Kay stickers in one shop, and then after some time a magnet tape, a refill for a little magnet maker in another?

The magnet tape is sticky on one side so that any paper or cardstock can be adhered to it as well. It is thin though, so that it probably won't be able to hold more than a little piece of paper on a board or a fridge, but this is quickly compensated by the fact that it can be cut with a knife of scissors, and you can even punch out motives with paper punches!

We get an idea. We adhere the stickers to the magnet tape, cut them out and we get super cute magnets for Sarah Kay "aficionados".

Papirnate pentlje

PAPER BOWS

In res so zelo preproste. / When I saw a video tutorial for these bows (the link is at the end of this post), I just couldn't wait to make some. And they are really very simple to make.

Za eno pentljo potrebujemo tri kose papirja velikosti 10 x 15 cm. / To make one bow, we need three pieces of paper of 10 x 15 cm.

Meni so daleč najbolj uporabni lepilni kvadratki za fotografije. / We cut two pieces of paper in four strips each (2.5 cm width). Then we take the third piece, cut a 2.5 cm strip horizontally at the top and then cut the rest of the paper vertically in four strips. (The photo shows it all.) We put some adhesive on one end of each strip - whatever adhesive you use. I usually use those little adhesive squares for photographs.

Nato vsak trak malo zvijemo in tik preden bi zlepili oba konca skupaj, tistega brez lepila obrnemo - glej slike. /Then we take each strip, bend it a little and just before the two ends would come together, we turn the one without the adhesive - see photos.

We do the same with all the strips except the shortest one. Now we need three brads, three dimensionals, a drawing pin and a cushion (or a punch for little circles - Fiskars).

We take the strips that will make the bottom and the top layer of the bow (in my case, the blue ones) and make a little hole 0.5 cm from the point where both ends come together. In case of the strips for the middle layer (orange ones), the hole should be 1 cm away from the egde - see photo.

When the holes are made, we take four strips that go together and join them with a brad (we could glue them together as well, but the brads give us some possibility for rearranging).

Zadnji, najkrajši trakec, zvijemo v krog in zlepimo. Na vsako razcepko damo eno lepilno blazinico. / We take the last (the shortest) strip, bend it into a circle and glue the ends together. We put a dimensional on each brad.

We stack the layers, press a bit in the center, add the circle (which can also be decorated or even made of some other paper) - voila!

I played a bit more... The pink and white bow is made of some sifter paper (gift wrapping paper, IKEA), and the merry one is made of ribbon (also IKEA). Since the ribbon is a bit narrower (2 cm), I adjusted the length of the strips: I used 8 strips of 12 cm, 4 strips of 10 cm and the shortest was 8 cm long.

In še obljubljena povezava / And the promised link

Mozaiki

MOSAICS

V eni od škatel sem našla vrečko majhnih steklenih kvadratnih ploščic (0,5 x 0,5 cm). Poiskala sem še bele lesene kvadratne ploščice (3 x 3 cm) in obojestranski lepilni trak.
/ I found a bag of miniature glass square tiles (0.5 x 0.5 cm) in one of my boxes. Then I went to look for some white wooden square tiles (3 x 3 cm) and a double-sided adhesive tape.

In sem začela pripravljati lesene kvadratke. Nalepiti sem jih želela na lepilni trak, ga obrezati, odstraniti zaščitno plast in nato na lepljivo podlago nalepiti kvadratke v določenem vzorčku.
/ I started to prepare the wooden tiles. I wanted to adhere them on the tape, cut them out, remove the protective layer and then place some little glass tiles in a certain pattern to the sticky base.

A preden sem uspela karkoli narediti, sta že bili dve mali "js tut, js tut" pri mizi in sta že tudi kar delali.
/ But before I managed to create anything, there were two little "me too, me too" at the table and they just started working.

In potem sem jima komaj utegnila pripravljati podlage, tako zagnano sta ustvarjali.
/ And then I had to work very fast to keep up with their creating pace.
